Midlife Mindset: Five to Thrive Reminders for a Peaceful Thanksgiving Season
The holidays can bring joy, laughter, and—let’s be honest—a little stress too. In this short and soul-nourishing episode of Aging with Grace and Style, Valerie shares her Five to Thrive for Thanksgiving week: five gentle reminders designed to help women over 50 protect their peace, embrace gratitude, and show up authentically.
This is your midlife mindset reset before the holiday rush. Valerie reminds listeners that store-bought counts, boundaries are healthy, and peace matters more than perfection. Each “to thrive” tip encourages you to let go of guilt, honor your needs, and find moments of calm in the middle of the busyness. Whether you’re cooking for a crowd or taking a solo breather in your car, these truths will keep you grounded in grace.
You’ll hear how releasing unrealistic expectations helps you reconnect with what really matters—connection, laughter, and presence. Through her signature warmth and humor, Valerie normalizes what many women over 50 feel this time of year: the tension between doing it all and wanting to rest. Her message is simple but powerful—self-care for women over 50 means giving yourself permission to be human.
This episode might be short, but it packs a heart-full reminder that gratitude doesn’t have to be loud or picture-perfect. A quiet moment of stillness can be the most sacred celebration of all. As Valerie says, you don’t have to perform, impress, or be perfect—you just have to be present.
So take a deep breath, pour that cup of coffee, and enjoy this midlife mindset moment of peace and perspective. Because aging with grace and style is about finding beauty in the pause, not just in the pace.

Hey, friend, it's Valerie.
Speaker AAnd welcome back to another episode of Aging with Grace and Style.
Speaker AIf you're new here, this is the podcast where we talk about navigating life after 50 with confidence, clarity, and a whole lot of grace.
Speaker AAnd if you've been rocking with me for a while, welcome back, sis.
Speaker AI'm glad you're here.
Speaker ANow, this week is a little different because we're heading into Thanksgiving, a holiday that I love, but one that can also feel busy, loud, and sometimes a little overwhelming.
Speaker AAnd since it's Thanksgiving week, I thought it was the perfect time to bring back something that I used to do called five to Thrive.
Speaker AIf you're new here, five to Thrive is simply five quick reminders to help you move through your week with more peace and a whole lot more grace.
Speaker AAnd listen, if we ever needed it, it's this week.
Speaker ASo today I'm sharing five reminders that I think every one of us could use as we head into Thanksgiving living our best life.
Speaker BIt's good to be alive, but it's best to truly let your spirit bright.
Speaker BSo celebrate the journey every single day, Aging with grace and style in our own special way.
Speaker ALet's jump in.
Speaker ANumber one, you don't have to do it all.
Speaker ASay it with me.
Speaker AStore bought Count.
Speaker AIf you don't feel like making homemade rolls, then don't.
Speaker AIf your dressing comes from a box, well, I'm a homemade dressing person, but not everyone is or has to be.
Speaker AThen so what if you contribute plates and cups to dinner?
Speaker AGirl, that's community service.
Speaker AThis is your permission slip to let go of the pressure and give yourself some breathing room.
Speaker ANumber two, you don't have to be on for everybody.
Speaker AHear me clearly.
Speaker AYou are not the emotional support animal for the entire family.
Speaker AYou are not responsible for the jokes, the conversation, the atmosphere, or the entertainment.
Speaker AYou are not responsible for the vibe of the whole room.
Speaker AIf you need to step away, take a walk, sit in your car for a minute, just do it.
Speaker AYour presence is valuable, but so is your peace.
Speaker ANumber three, you are allowed to set boundaries even on holidays.
Speaker AIf certain conversations drain you, then redirect with grace or even just remove yourself.
Speaker AIf certain family members come with drama, and probably most of us have somebody somewhere in the family that comes with drama, then limit your exposure.
Speaker AIf you don't want to host this year, say no.
Speaker AWell, honestly, it's probably a little late right now since we're only a few days away.
Speaker ABut hey, do you.
Speaker AIf you want to leave early, then leave early.
Speaker AHonestly, boundaries are just as important on Thanksgiving as the turkey.
Speaker ANumber four.
Speaker AYou don't have to force Joy.
Speaker AYou don't feel.
Speaker ALet's be real.
Speaker ANot everyone is having a picture perfect Thanksgiving.
Speaker ASome are grieving, some are overwhelmed.
Speaker ASome are just plain tired.
Speaker ASome are cooking for people who won't help or won't say thank you.
Speaker ASomebody just said an amen to that.
Speaker AAnd you know what?
Speaker AIt's okay.
Speaker ALet your emotions be honest.
Speaker AJoy doesn't have to be loud.
Speaker AIt can be soft.
Speaker AIt can be subtle.
Speaker AIt can even be quiet.
Speaker AThis year, number five Find one moment that's just for you.
Speaker AYes, Thanksgiving is about togetherness, but it's also about you.
Speaker ASo take five minutes, step outside, breathe in the cool air, sit at the edge of the bed, sip something warm, or just let yourself be A moment of stillness in the middle of the busyness is sometimes the best gratitude practice there is.
Speaker AYou deserve a moment that's yours.
Speaker AYes, even in the middle of the holiday swirl.
Speaker ASo there you go.
Speaker AYour five to Thrive for Thanksgiving week.
Speaker ARemember, you don't have to perform.
Speaker AYou don't have to impress.
Speaker AYou don't have to be perfect.
Speaker AYou just have to be present with others and with yourself.
Speaker AGive yourself grace.
Speaker ATake what you need and enjoy this holiday in a way that honors your heart.
